17th-Mar-2012 06:25 pm - main sliding hatch
captain_morgan
I am also making progress on the sliding hatch. It is made out of leftover lexan from the window job. I have all the pieces cut, laminated, and bolted together. I still have to bond the pieces together. I will probably  use Sika 295. It is expensive and a pain to use, but it seems to work well and it could probably get the pieces apart with a knife if I ever have to replace the top.

Dad helped me cut and fit the MDO for the first bulkhead
26th-Feb-2012 06:15 pm - head hatch
captain_morgan
I have a hatch in the deck above the head. It is rather small, and not a stock size that I could find, so I built my own. I used 1/2" lexan. First I need some custom pins to hold the hatch dogs. I turned these out of some stainless bar stock on the lathe.

Here is the underside of the hatch showing the seal and the hatch dogs that clamp down on the hatch frame. I am using wing nuts at the moment, but sometime I will get some nicer plastic knobs.

Here is a pic of the hatch from the top showing the hinges.

Hope it doesn't leak!
10th-Jan-2012 06:21 pm - wood rack
captain_morgan
I ordered 10 sheets of 1/2" MDO plywood and Dad brought down some other lumber, so I needed a rack to store them on.

I cover it with a tarp to keep it out of the weather. I really envy people that have a building shed. This is also going to be a pain to move if a hurricane shows up!

9th-Oct-2011 08:24 pm - Engine is in!
captain_morgan
I put the engine back in the boat with some help from a friend and a forklift. It was a tight fit. You have to drop it in through the door by tilting it just right then set it on the bottom of the boat. Next move the come-alongs to the padeyes over the engine foundation and shift it over and set it down all the while trying not to knock the oil drain valve off the bottom of the oil pan!

I just got the table saw put together. This thing is solid. It weighs about 360lb. The instructions say to make sure you have at least 3 people to take it out of the box and turn it right side up. I didn't have any help, but luckily I had an overhead crane. That did the trick!

Next up is to create some kind of heavy duty off road cart so I can roll it in and out of the trailer and set it up next to the boat.
